I am finally able to blog. The internets at our hotel in Las Vegas were $12 a day! I am so happy to be back home. I can't really open my heart to Las Vegas. My teammate, Anna Milkowski explained to me that I need to embrace Vegas. I should be happy that the mayhem of Vegas stays in Vegas, concentrated in that area. Maybe that's what they really mean by "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas"?
Yes, 10 minutes was enough of that city for me, however, the 'cross race was a ton of fun. Half of Boulder was in Vegas. It's always nice to see familiar faces in foreign places. It was my debut race as a Velo Bella, and the team is awesome! However, the race didn't go too well for me. I had an awesome start, and with Janis and Nat's help, inched my way up to the front row at the start. I was on Georgia's wheel, which was exhilarating. But I only moved back from there. About half-way through, I hit a rut, went over the handle bars, and landed on my head. That was scary - but fortunately all that was damaged was my helmet. After the crash, our director, Alex asked me some 'do you have a concussion questions'.
"What day is it?" - "I don't know, but I don't think I would know either way"
"Where did you go to high school?" - "Burke Mtn Academy"
"Is that true?" - "Hopefully"
"Who is our president?" - "An a$@hole"
"Very good, just chill out here."
Excel Sports and everyone involved put on an incredible race. I think they were very pleased with the turn-out, and I think it'll be huge for Excel.
I apologize for not taking any pictures. You can see some here...
Interbike was over-whelming. I had no idea what it would be like. It reminded me of walking around a giant mall, but every store was a bike store. I suppose that would be a dream for some? It was a lot to take in, but incredible to meet the women and men behind the products. Speaking of which, Sabine Dukes, the co-founder of Velo Bella-Kona was honored yesterday at Interbike for her contributions to women's cycling.
So, long-winded, some fun racing, Vegas was cool for 10 minutes, but I am happy to be away from the slot machines and second-hand smoke.
